intro to HTML

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is a markup language used to create web pages. It is used to structure and display the content of a web page, including text, images, links, and forms.

HTML uses a series of tags to describe the structure of the web page. Tags are instructions placed between angled brackets "<" and ">". For example, the "<h1>" tag is used to define a level 1 header.

Here are some key elements of HTML:

  • Tags: Tags are instructions that tell the browser how to display the content of the page. Tags must be properly formatted for the web page to display correctly.

  • Elements: Elements are the content blocks that are contained within tags. For example, a block of text would be contained within the "<p>" tag.

  • Attributes: Attributes provide additional information about tags and elements. For example, the "src" attribute is used to indicate the location of an image.

Learning HTML is an essential first step in creating web pages. There are many online resources for learning HTML, including tutorials, videos, and hands-on examples. By using these resources, you can learn to create basic web pages and add advanced features, such as forms and tables.

To create a basic HTML page, you will need to follow some basic steps:

  1. Open a text editor: You can use any text editor, such as Notepad or Sublime Text, to create an HTML file.

  2. Start with the basic HTML structure: Every HTML page starts with a basic structure. Type the following code to start your page:

<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>My Page</title> </head> <body> <!-- Your content goes here --> </body> </html>

The <!DOCTYPE html> tag specifies the version of HTML you are using, and the <html> tag indicates the start of the HTML code. The <head> tag contains metadata about the page, such as the title, which appears in the browser tab. The <body> tag contains the content of the page.

  1. Add content to your page: You can add text, images, links, and other elements to your page by using HTML tags. For example, to add a heading to your page, use the <h1> tag:

<h1>This is a Heading</h1>

To add an image, use the <img> tag:

<img src="image.jpg" alt="Description of image">

  1. Save your file: Save your file with a .html extension. For example, save your file as mypage.html.

  2. View your page: Open your HTML file in a web browser to view your page. You can also upload your file to a web server to make it available on the internet.
